Technical Director
About Me
As Technical Director at Button Block, I lead our development team and oversee all technical aspects of client projects. My journey in technology and business spans decades, giving me a unique perspective that combines technical expertise with real-world business experience.
My Technical Leadership
I've been immersed in digital technology since 1999, when I led one of the first teams selling vehicles online at eBay. Since then, I've built a career at the intersection of technology and business, culminating in founding Cloud Radix in 2013, a digital agency providing websites, marketing, advertising, and analytics for businesses.
At Button Block, I apply this wealth of experience to ensure our technical solutions are not just cutting-edge, but also aligned with real business objectives and measurable results.
My Areas of Expertise
My technical expertise spans a wide range of areas, including:
- Full-stack web development (PHP, Java, HTML5, CSS3, AJAX)
- Server administration (Apache, MySQL, Linux)
- CMS platforms (WordPress, Joomla, Drupal)
- Network security and infrastructure
- Cloud computing and Google Apps deployment
- SEO and digital marketing integration
I'm particularly passionate about building efficient, secure systems that scale with business growth, and I enjoy automating processes through bash scripting and browser macros to maximize productivity.
My Entrepreneurial Background
My path to technology was shaped by entrepreneurship. In 2001, I founded e-MotorClassics, a brokerage company targeting privately owned classic and collector cars for sale on eBay Motors. We grew from a bedroom startup to a seven-employee operation in Auburn, Indiana, selling over $25 million in classic cars—including the first-ever Duesenberg sold over the Internet for $260,000 sight unseen.
Before that, I spent 15 years with Kruse International, starting by mowing the lawn and eventually becoming an auctioneer on the podium. This experience in sales, marketing, and business operations gives me a holistic view of how technology serves business goals.
My Development Philosophy
I believe in building solutions that are not only technically sound but also user-friendly and maintainable. My development philosophy emphasizes clean code, thorough testing, and thoughtful architecture that can adapt to changing business needs.
Having been on both sides—building businesses and building technology—I understand that the best technical solutions are those that solve real business problems efficiently and reliably.
Education & Continuous Learning
I studied Computer Science at Indiana-Purdue University at Fort Wayne from 2008-2011, with a focused mission to learn programming. Since then, I've embraced continuous learning, constantly exploring new technologies and methodologies through self-study and practical application.
This commitment to ongoing education ensures that Button Block stays at the forefront of technological innovation, delivering cutting-edge solutions to our clients.
Family & Future Goals
As an OG Button Gang member and proud of it, one of my primary goals is to help my son and daughter successfully grow and build the business. I seek to "powerlevel" them both by sharing my experience, knowledge, and connections—providing them with advantages I had to earn the hard way.
This mentorship approach extends to how I work with our team at Button Block, where I believe in empowering the next generation of digital entrepreneurs and technologists with both practical skills and business acumen.
